21 Nov 2008 // Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-Manhattan) remains the powerful chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

And despite the investigation he requested by the House Ethics Committee for failing to pay about $10,000 in back taxes (which he has since repaid) on a rental property he owns in the Dominican Republic, the vote today was not ever in doubt.

Feared watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington even named Rangel to its vaunted “Most Corrupt” lawmakers list this year, but as The Mouth has said, the Korean war hero, civil rights leader, agitator, bane of Vice President Cheney’s existence, and dapper man about Harlem who is owed many, many favors in Congress, is and always will be untouchable.
